Why I Never Stopped Experimenting
The Importance of Staying Open
Throughout my life as an artist, I have never been content simply to repeat what I already know.
Painting has always been a journey of discovery. Each new work begins with a question: What happens if I try something different? What happens if I allow the materials, the process, or an unexpected idea to lead me somewhere I have not yet been?
Experimentation keeps the creative process alive. It allows an artist to remain engaged, curious, and open to possibilities that may not have been visible at the beginning.
Beyond the Familiar
It is easy, and often comforting, to return to what feels familiar. A technique that works, a style that is recognized, or a process that feels predictable can provide a sense of security.
But growth rarely happens within the boundaries of what we already understand.
Some of the most meaningful discoveries in my work have arrived through uncertainty. A sudden change in direction, an unexpected result, or a process that refused to follow the expected path has often opened the door to something entirely new.
The Artist’s Lifelong Conversation
Experimentation is not about discarding experience or beginning again from nothing. It is about allowing experience to continue evolving.
Every painting carries traces of what has come before while making space for what has not yet been discovered. Materials, ideas, and choices become part of an ongoing conversation.
For me, the deepest joy of creating comes from that continued search. Staying open to new possibilities is what keeps the creative journey alive.
